How do I sell an investment on the IG Invest app?

To sell an investment, follow these simple steps:
1.    Choose your account type: Select the account (GIA or ISA) where the investment is held.
2.    Navigate to your investments: Click on Overview and go to the Investments tab to see the list of stocks or ETFs you own.
3.    Select your stock: Tap on the stock you wish to sell.
4.    Click ‘Sell’: At the bottom of the screen, tap the Sell button.
5.    Choose the number of shares: Enter the number of shares you’d like to sell or select ‘Sell max’ to sell your entire holding of that stock.
a.    The default order type is a market order.
6.    Review your order: Tap Review order to check the details, including fees and charges.
7.    Submit your order: Once you’re satisfied, tap Submit order to complete the process.

Your order will then be executed immediately, and the proceeds will be reflected in your cash balance.

Once you’ve sold your shares, the cash will be available for reinvestment straight away. If you’d prefer to withdraw the cash to your bank account, it will be ready to withdraw once the shares have ‘settled.’ For example, if you sell shares on a Monday, the funds should settle by Wednesday. This follows a T+2 settlement period – where ‘T’ is the transaction date, and ‘2’ refers to the number of business days after the transaction date.
