Two-factor authentication FAQs
Your account’s security is our priority – which is why we recommend two-factor authentication (2FA). It’s easy to set up, and you’ll be familiar with the process from other financial platforms.
What is 2FA?
Two-factor authentication (2FA) is a second security layer for your account protecting against unauthorised access. We’ll ask you for a separate one-time password (OTP) when you log in, as an extra step. Our OTPs are valid for 30 seconds, making them more secure than traditional passwords.
How do I set-up 2FA?
Ensure you have the latest version of the IG Trading app on your mobile, and you’ve downloaded a compatible authentication app such as Google Authenticator, Microsoft Authenticator, Authy app or similar. Go to the 'security’ menu on our app and follow the instructions to enable 2FA.
How do I log in with 2FA?
On desktop you’ll add your username/email and password as usual. You’ll then be prompted for your authentication code on a dedicated screen. For mobile users with biometrics set-up, you’ll be prompted for an authentication code after you’ve successfully passed biometrics login.
What authentication app can I use?
You can use industry-standard authentication apps from companies like Microsoft, Google or Authy. Existing IG Authentication app users can continue to use our app, but this isn’t recommended as we intend to decommission this app soon.
How do I switch-off 2FA?
If you’d like to remove this second layer of security, you can deactivate 2FA in the mobile app or follow instructions on your My IG dashboard. You’ll be asked for a one-time-password to switch the feature off.
How do I set-up 2FA on a new phone?
If you’ve lost your phone, or can’t access your authentication app, you‘ll first need to disable your existing 2FA by contacting us.
Simply send a request by email to helpdesk.uk@ig.com from your registered email address and include the following:
